Google은 일반 사용자가 액세스할 수 있으며 크롤러 Googlebot이 페이지를 크롤링하지 못하도록 차단하지 않는 웹상의 페이지만 색인을 생성합니다. 페이지를 비공개로 만드는 경우(예: 로그인해야 볼 수 있는 경우) Googlebot은 페이지를 크롤링하지 않습니다. 마찬가지로 여러 메커니즘 중 하나를 사용하여 Google의 색인 생성을 차단할 경우 페이지의 색인이 생성되지 않습니다.
