Functionality varies by region. [Learn more](/maps/comms/eea/faq).\n\nReverse Geocoding refers to the conversion of a location's geographic\ncoordinates into a human-readable street address. The Maps SDK for iOS\nincludes a class called the\n[`GMSGeocoder`](/maps/documentation/ios-sdk/reference/objc/Classes/GMSGeocoder)\nclass, which includes the\n[`reverseGeocodeCoordinate`](/maps/documentation/ios-sdk/reference/objc/Classes/GMSGeocoder#-reversegeocodecoordinate:completionhandler:)\nmember function which you can use to perform the conversion. This method takes\nlocation coordinates in an instance of a\n[CLLocationCoordinate2D](https://developer.apple.com/documentation/corelocation/cllocationcoordinate2d?language=objc)\nobject, and returns a human-readable street address in an instance of the\n[`GMSAddress`](/maps/documentation/ios-sdk/reference/objc/Classes/GMSAddress)\nclass.\n| **Note:** The Maps SDK for iOS does not directly support Geocoding. We recommend that applications use the [Geocoding API](/maps/documentation/geocoding) directly to convert human-readable addresses to map coordinates.\n\nThe influence of language preferences\n\nThe geocoder is optimized to provide human readable street addresses. To achieve\nthis, it returns street addresses in the local language, transliterated to text\nthat is readable by the user (if necessary). All other addresses are returned in\nthe preferred language.\n\n- Address components are returned in the same language, which is chosen from the\n first component.\n\n- If a name is not available in the preferred language, then the geocoder uses\n the closest match.\n\nGuarantees regarding address components\n\nGoogle makes no guarantee regarding address components. Address structure\nchanges from country to country, and even within countries.\n\n- You can expect address components to contain only what is relevant for postal\n addresses, and little more.\n\n- In particular, *locality* is neither guaranteed to be always present, nor is\n it supposed to always represent the *city*.\n\nFor an example of address components in action, see\n[Place Autocomplete Address Form](/maps/documentation/javascript/examples/places-autocomplete-addressform).\n\nSorting the results\n\nResults aren't sorted by distance, and the order is subject to change.\n\n- A particular order is not guaranteed.\n\n- There is no guarantee about what the first result will be.\n\nReverse geocoding is an estimate\n\nThe geocoder attempts to find the closest addressable location within a\nparticular tolerance.\n\nIf the geocoder can't find a match, then it returns no results.\n\nFor more information, see\n[Geocoding Addresses Best Practices](/maps/documentation/geocoding/best-practices)\nand also the [Geocoding FAQ](/maps/documentation/geocoding/faq)."]]
